Gotham Season 5: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'They Did What?'
The Fox series returns to begins its goodbye, doing so with a stunning penultimate episode.
Contains spoilers from Gotham Season 5, Episode 11.
It's been nearly a month since Gotham was on last our screens, which - considering the huge cliffhanger the previous episode left us with - is a little unfair. Nonetheless, the Fox series has finally returned for its final two episodes - the first of which aired on Thursday night.
Picking up from where I Am Bane left off, the series' penultimate episode - entitled They Did What? - finds Gordon, Bullock and the GCPD trying to maintain order in a city that's gone mad. With General Wade having ordered a military attack on Gotham at Nyssa Al Ghul's request, Gotham's heroes and villains come together to save the city they hold so dear.
They Did What? is not only one of the best Gotham offerings we've had this season, it's one of the greatest episodes the Fox series has ever produced - which appears to be something of a trend in Season 5. What's more, with moments of reflection aplenty, emotional goodbyes - not to mention somewhat of a finality to the primary narrative - this instalment could well have served as the series' final episode - and if it had we certainly wouldn't have been left disappointed.
