Gotham Series Finale: 7 Easter Eggs & References You Might Have Missed In 'The Beginning...'

1. Batman: Year One

Batman Year One
DC Comics

With this being Batman's debut adventure on Gotham, it's no surprise that 'The Beginning...' was, in parts, inspired by Frank Miller's classic graphic novel Batman: Year One.

From the Dark Knight's attempts to befriend and assist Gordon to the fact that he spent the final act rescuing the GCPD Commissioner's daughter from a criminal, there were a number of references to the revolutionary story throughout.

The most recognisable, however, came in the finale's closing moments when Gordon stood atop the GCPD, wearing a long brown jacket as he referred to Batman as a "friend" - a direct reference to Year One's final panel, in which Gordon also stands on the roof the GCPD headquarters in a brown coat as he tells the reader that he's waiting on a friend.
