Gotham TV Series: 10 Reasons It Can Tie-In To The DC Universe

1. Confidence

Book3

Now, I'm not a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I think it's nothing but fluff with explosions. As a fan of comics in general though, I believe in giving credit when credit is due. Marvel has created something to be envied, and if DC wasn't paying attention when Iron Man came out in 2008, well they are now. DC needs to be confident in their product, and make a bold move. Their new line up for television projects is showing that they are willing to do that. It can't just stop at that though. While it's great that we finally get a Gotham Police series, DC has been known for pulling its punches in the television world. Does anybody remember the last time they seen Harvey Dent or Scarecrow on television? I'd research it, but it's been ages. Anybody know the reason? Well it's the same reason Bruce Wayne was never allowed to be on Smallville. After Nolan picked up the directing gig on Batman Begins, a moratorium was put in place on certain characters, and limiting portrayals on other characters. Personally, I think it was a terrible move. DC Can't do this if they are going to be starting up a Universe. Gotham NEEDS characters like Harvey Dent, and DC NEEDS to show that it is confident in its product enough to let it run its course. He's already been in a couple movies. Man of Steel 2 is going to have an aged Bruce. There is no reason to not show the beginnings of some of the big guns. Marvel has it's universe, and in the end nobody is sitting on the bench. DC Don't bench your characters just because you want one definitive portrayal. Doing limits the effectiveness of a shared universe between film and/or television. It was all well and good when the Batman movies were contained, but Marvel introduced the next level. Having Gotham set in shared space just makes sense, and it has to happen. It can't happen if you don't play the cards you've been dealt, otherwise it's just going to get stale and feel old before it's time.

I'm a fan of pop-culture in all mediums: Music, Film, Gaming, Comics, TV, Whatever. I can generally find something enjoyable in even the worst trash. I guess as a B-Horror enthusiast, I kind of have to. Currently I'm an author working on a manuscript for a crime novel, and attending school to be an Environmental Health and Safety Technician. In the past I've made a go at running in an election for MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) for my hometown of Glace Bay. I was 23 at the time, and though I lost (by like a lot), I learned a lot more about politics in a month than I ever learned. Get at me on Twitter @DanWilsonWC
