Gotham TV Series: 10 Reasons It Can Tie-In To The DC Universe

2. Ground Zero

batmanzeroyear It's still early, and we know little about the series. From what we do know, we know that Batman will not be appearing on the series, and that it will feature a young Jim Gordon. To be completely honest with all of you, a show about a young Jim Gordon where Batman exists and is never seen sounds like a bad idea for a show. What would make sense, as I've detailed before, is that it should take place before the time of Batman. Establish new continuity where Jim Gordon exists in Gotham before the Year One story that we are used to, and go from there. It would establish itself as a standalone series, as well as set-up for a city that needs it's Dark Knight. As far as it fitting into a DC Universe, Gotham should be treated as a Ground Zero. It can connect the shows on TV that feature younger actors and the origins of the characters, while the movies show the end-game. I think DC may be thinking this way. They may have it in their minds that by showing the origins of these characters on tv... it can open up a window into their future. That way when we see an older Batman, or the mature Oliver Queen, or Barry Allen, on the big screen... we have a very detailed account of where they've come from. They don't need to do that with Superman and Batman. Those stories have been told to death, but allowing Gotham to act as a catalyst, and a melting pot to grow characters? It would create an incredible sense of attention to detail, while providing us with a multi-medium use of non-linear story telling. If this is the case... Well played DC!

I'm a fan of pop-culture in all mediums: Music, Film, Gaming, Comics, TV, Whatever. I can generally find something enjoyable in even the worst trash. I guess as a B-Horror enthusiast, I kind of have to. Currently I'm an author working on a manuscript for a crime novel, and attending school to be an Environmental Health and Safety Technician. In the past I've made a go at running in an election for MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) for my hometown of Glace Bay. I was 23 at the time, and though I lost (by like a lot), I learned a lot more about politics in a month than I ever learned. Get at me on Twitter @DanWilsonWC
