Hanna Season 1: 7 Brilliant Details You Probably Missed
2. "You Want Me To Contact Colorado?"
Sometimes a show's hidden details are insightful, other times they demonstrate painstaking effort. Then, there are times when they're just plain funny. In the case of Amazon's Hanna, one of the best meta jokes of the series is delivered in a line so quick that most won't have time to fully contemplate its meaning.
When Jerome Sawyer calls Carlsson to warn her of the assault on Utrax Regenesis, she asks if she should contact Colorado. While not discussed further, the implication appears to be that Colorado is home to Utrax headquarters. Most viewers won't catch the humor in this, but the line has special meaning to those who follow American conspiracy theories.
In 2005, there was minimal press suggesting that the CIA might move its recruitment headquarters from Langley to Denver. There was never any official follow-up in the press to confirm that this actually happened, but that didn't stop a few notable conspiracy sites from freaking out over the news.
It took a few years (since conspiracy theorists don't prefer to follow mainstream media), but Above Top Secret caught wind of the story in 2009 and suggested that the CIA was moving because they had secret knowledge of imminent climate disasters. The move to Colorado would facilitate access to secret tunnels under Denver International Airport, a place so targeted by conspiracy theories that even their own website can't help but propose a few. In 2011, Truth Is Treason reached a similar conclusion, further theorizing that the tunnels reached all the way from Denver back to Langley.
A shady subterranean base? Sounds like something Utrax would do. And this is their recruiting office? That's exactly what the Utrax program is for! Add the fact that the original intent of moving to Denver was to inspire innovation - the Utrax program is nothing if not innovative - and this Colorado-based conspiracy has Utrax written all over it.
