Eddie Izzard's character, Dr Abel Gideon, stirred up quite a bit of trouble in the first season of 'Hannibal'. To begin, he claimed he was the Chesapeake Ripper, thereby taking credit for Hannibal's murders. This, most definitely did not put him in Hannibal's good books. As a result of that, he escaped from the mental institution, killed and mutilated a number of doctors - including Dr. Chilton, known to be Lecter's carer when he's arrested. Finally, he was shot by Will and presumed dead. What we loved about Izzard's approach to this character was the calm madness that stewed inside him. When he was shot there was a sigh of disappointment - why had they killed such a good character? - but an appreciation for the use of the character. Now, however, it's been told that he will be back. Which makes us think - how? Is he actually dead or did Will Graham simply make him pass out? Jack did say Will "took Gideon down". He could very well be Will's cell neighbor. Or, is he coming back as some form of hallucination? Will is already in a fragile state - what's one more psychotic voice in his head? In whatever form Izzard is to return, the fact is he is returning. We'll be able to listen to that calm, sinister voice that makes us quiver. Izzard was yet another piece of the perfect puzzle that was 'Hannibal' season one and to have him back in season two is bold but we have faith and, most importantly, excitement.
