Hannibal Season 4: Everything We Know So Far
1. The Future Of Season 4
As of August 2020 Hannibal has not be renewed for a fourth season. Mikkelsen expressed his disappointment when the show was cancelled on NBC, telling the Express "We were all angry. We were p*ssed. It's madness... Season 4 was the one we thought we'd definitely get. Seasons 2 and 3 were on the verge. We didn't know whether Hannibal would be renewed but by the time we got to Season 4 we thought it was a definite. We were very surprised at the decision."
Fuller remains hopeful of a fourth season and has clearly put a significant amount of work into a possible Silence Of The Lambs plot, telling Digital Spy "I would love to cast Lee pace as Buffalo Bill, I'm imagining a parallel structure of Hannibal in the institution, with a severely scarred Chilton, now having returned to his post... Juxtaposing that, back in the heyday of Hannibal as a psychiatrist... when he had Benjamin Raspail as a patient, and [we'd] weave that story in and around the modern day Silence Of The Lambs tale as we know it."
Concern over character rights don't appear to have derailed Fuller either - "Martha and I tried many times to work with MGM to include Clarice into our Hannibal story," tweeted Fuller in January 2020, "They ultimately told us they had their own plans for Clarice and they didn't need Hannibal to tell her story. Don't think this impacts a potential [fourth] season as we never had Clarice rights."
Mikkelsen was asked about those potential storylines but went full Hannibal with his response in the Express - "I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you." Can't wait.
