For that matter, give our heroes a purpose and stick to it! I'm all for character development but season three had Nathan Petrelli changing allegiances nearly every week and that resulted in a character whose motivations we didn't understand or frankly didn't care about. Sylar is another one. He was brilliant as the first season villain and his story could have ended satisfactorily there. But no, thanks to Zachary Quinto's star power, the writers kept bringing Sylar back again and again and again. What was worse, they made him a hero by making him lose his mind, then become a villain again, then, oh I don't know. He went all badass when he killed Nathan but by the end we didn't know whose side he was on. Good I think? That's what the final episodes of Heroes seemed to go with. Now I'd be surprised if this new season of Heroes gets all the cast back and as good as Zachary Quinto is, I'd be fine if he wasn't there. With such a limited run story, the show needs to focus again on core characters. If Sylar is now one of the heroes, having earned his redemption, that's fine. Just don't have him changing sides one season to the next. If they want a villain, find someone else.
