If there's one thing season four did right more than its preceding two seasons, it was putting our protagonists in a position to become the heroes they were destined to become. Claire jumping to her 'death' and miraculously surviving was the first step towards the human race becoming aware of people with special powers. After season one, we waited and waited and waited for heroes saving people from fires, rescuing victims trapped in car pile ups, stopping speeding trains and preventing criminals from robbing banks and holding the innocent hostage. All good superhero stuff. Throw in some villains and we could have explosive confrontations on the streets of New York. It didn't have to be all capes and spandex, it wasn't that kind of show. It was more a realistic take on what would happen if people with powers really did exist in our world. Too much of Heroes was taken up by people with powers hiding from the world or seeking to control others behind the scenes. Claire's actions in the closing moments of season four, while serving as a somewhat satisfactory series finale, have also liberated the show by allowing it to go in a whole different direction. To see not only how our heroes fit the world now but how the world has reacted to this 'evolution' of humanity will be a fascinating springboard for any new story.
