His Dark Materials: 10 Things The TV Series Must Get Right
10. Stay Faithful To The Books
Just incase it wasn't clear from that intro, I love the books. If you're reading this, you probably love the books too. And why wouldn't you? They're an utter joy to read at any age, and the first two in particular are rather stunning works of fiction. So, why would you need to change anything? Yes, there's always going to be some things you can do in a book that you can't on TV, and vice versa, but on the whole the new series needs to stay very much true to the books. It's been so carefully plotted, the world so precisely built, that it's all there for them. Don't needlessly change the chronology, don't have the exposition-filled intro, and don't remove the f***ing ending.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
