His Dark Materials: 10 Things The TV Series Must Get Right
6. Give It The Budget It Deserves
As mentioned throughout this article, there's a whole lot in this world that needs to be translated properly to the screen. Those locations, the fantastical creatures, they need to be brought to life in the best way possible, and that means spending a fair bit of money. That's perhaps the biggest question mark over this at the minute. Will the BBC be able to deliver on the big budget this show needs, especially when it comes to the special effects? They haven't always been successful on Doctor Who, but then they're probably not as important there. The 'Beeb' can do fantastic drama, but with His Dark Materials they'll have to show that they can dig deep into the coffers and deliver on spectacle as well. Bad Wolf, who are working with New Line Cinema on the series, have just partnered with HBO, so hopefully that may help things in terms of delivering the scale it needs.
