Homeland: Top 5 Moments

4. Teaching Abu Nazir's Son - Episode 9

The majority of this episode is a flashback and an important insight into the way Brody's mindset. After several years of solitary confinement, Sergeant Brody has been invited to live with terror suspect Abu Nazir. It is here where Nazir feeds him and cleans him up. Nazir then asks Brody to teach his young son, Issa English. Brody is reluctant to teach and the young boy is reluctant to learn, but as the flashback continues and the months pass they form a friendship. Until one day Issa leaves for school and is caught in a drone strike destroying the town and killing Issa and 82 other children. Brody is left devastated and angered when discovering a statement released from the US media informing that no children were killed in the blast. An excellent example of Homeland's brilliance, nothing is black and white. When is cuts back to present day, Brody is reminded of the events that have led to this point and he is informed that he will be approached for office and to accept as a sign of commitment to Al-Qaeda.
