House Of Cards: 10 Questions That Must Be Answered In Season 3
10. Is Doug Stamper Dead?
The first question House of Cards will likely address is the motionless blue body of Frank's partner-in-crime and Chief of Staff Doug Stamper. After chasing a petrified Rachel into the woods, in yet another attempt to keep the show's longest running loose end within arms reach, he found himself blindsided, battered with a rock, and left in a heap. Naturally fans could be forgiven for immediately assuming the worst, but the show cleverly refrained from committing to whether or not he's alive or dead. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that he's simply knocked out and somehow didn't freeze to death after spending an autumnal night outdoors in DC, with only a tailored suit to keep him warm. However, if he has taken the long walk to the senate in the sky, then this poses a huge problem. Never mind that his tenure as President of the United States is starting with the death of his closest friend and advisor, Doug Stamper is the man who protects Frank from all the blood that would otherwise be on his hands. There's still plenty of dirty work that needs to be done to keep the massing wolves from the White House door, and Doug's death leaves Frank with the option of either doing it himself (whilst, y'know, trying to run the country), or confessing his sins to the likes of Seth in the search for a replacement.
