10. America Goes To War
The most notable feature of the Season 3 trailer was how pronounced the military presence was. A huge address in front of a room of soldiers, a state funeral with three separate coffins, a mysterious army figure in a darkened corridor, and Frank sitting shocked in what appeared to be a war room all point to significantly stronger focus on the role of the armed forces in Season 3. Their presence is to be expected of course. Frank's previous roles as the Majority Whip and (briefly) the Vice President were hardly likely to land him in charge of the military, but of all the new responsibilities that come with being Commander-in-Chief this is the one that can drive the story on best. Frank's never hesitated when it comes to playing politics with the lives of others and, now that he's got something like 1.3million soldiers at his disposal, there's no telling what he might do. The clear tension between himself and the newly introduced Russian head of state Petrov suggests that the central story might involve friction between the US and Russia, although there's still some serious and unresolved issues with China to consider.
