You knew the family time between Claire and her mother wasnt going to last very long or end happily. Certainly not once Frank arrived. He seemed to have no interest in trying to repair that damage to his relationship with his wife, but instead treats her like another politician he's attempting to blackmail. His reveal that Claires mother has cancer was pretty brutal, especially since he seemed to enjoy it so much, but his insistence that they use that to help his campaign is pretty low. At first, Claire is appropriately appalled, but her tone quickly changes when it becomes about becomes clear the story would help her own election hopes for Congress. At the end of the day, though she may hide it better, Claire is as ruthless and power-hungry as her husband.
