House Of The Dragon Episode 2 Review - 9 Ups & 1 Down
9. Up - Meet Lady Mysaria
The absolutely ridiculous accent the show runners have decided to bestow upon her aside, the latest episode of House of the Dragon begins exploring a character who has a vital role in the wars to come in a superbly intriguing manner; Prince Daemon's paramour, Mysaria.
Mysaria swiftly shows that she is no meek paramour content to fade into the backdrop as she angrily chastises Daemon for placing her life in danger after the Prince attempts to capture his brother's attention by sending emissaries to King's Landing claiming she is pregnant and about to wed Daemon. Relative unknown Sonoya Mizuno does a superb job of also highlighting the throwaway nature of Mysaria's status as Daemon's whore and her foreboding references to her past life doing whatever it takes to survive underlines her clearly visceral commitment to continue to do so.
Without wanting to offer to much in the way of spoilers, Mysaria's steely side foreshadows the epic character arc she is likely to undergo as House of the Dragon progresses; it is not hyperbole to say that the scale of her rise in political significance is only rivalled by a few select characters in Martin's entire canon. The choice of a relatively unknown actress to play such an integral role in the story was a huge gamble on the show runners' behalf, but aforementioned ridiculous accent aside, Mizuno looks to have taken to her break-out role like a duck to water.
