House Of The Dragon Episode 2 Review - 9 Ups & 1 Down
8. Up - The pacing of the story
A popular gripe amongst detractors of Game of Thrones was that the first season took too long to get going, and subsequently impatient viewers gave up on the show before it had a chance to progress to the more exciting aspects of the story.
Detractors of House of the Dragon can have no such complaints. The show's advantage of not having to introduce a new universe from the atoms up has allowed it to dive straight into thrilling plot lines with considerably higher stakes much sooner than its predecessor; House of the Dragon's latest installment has not even reached the final scene before fans witness a stand off with the threat of dragon-on-dragon combat looming large over it. The introduction to the show has been so concise, yet wide ranging that it has allowed the more intriguing plot lines to flow naturally from the start. As such, there are no faults to be found with the increased intensity to the pacing of the story; every second has been riveting viewing.
House of the Dragon has shown in just two episodes that it is one of those shows where viewers can't bare to miss even one second in case some subtle foreshadowing or nuanced detail is missed. Rhaenyra and Daemon's storylines in particular are progressing at a startlingly rapid rate and allowing for exceedingly rich character progression in the early goings of the show; a huge factor in the wave of critical acclaim that have greeted both episodes to date.
