House Of The Dragon Episode 2 Review - 9 Ups & 1 Down
7. Up - A new yet nostalgic take on the introductory sequence
Even the most stern faced fan in the world couldn't resist breaking into a massive cheesy grin and humming along at full volume when the beloved Game of Thrones theme song triumphantly blasted out of speakers to kick off the debut of House of the Dragon's brand new credit sequence.
Combining the nostalgia of the beloved tune with gorgeous new captivating visuals, the re-imagined opening sequence now features waves of blood (extremely appropriate for the goriest fantasy drama on television) flowing across a rocky backdrop that resembles the volcanic stone of the Targaryen ancestral home of Dragonstone as well as King Viserys' model of Old Valyria. The show also appears to continuing the beloved tradition of only crediting actors who appear in that episode as opposed to an entrenched main line up, so fans will know from the get go whether that week's episode features their favorite characters.
The credits of Game of Thrones is one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable introductory credit sequences in television history for a reason. House of the Dragon wisely chooses to not fix what isn't broke while still managing to add beautifully subtle touches; underlining the show runners' commitment to making a follow up that not only pays tribute to Game of Thrones, but aspires to eclipse the original show's unparalleled wave of success.
