House Of The Dragon Episode Seven Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs

6. Up - Rhaenyra's Character Development

House Of The Dragon
HBO

Rhaenyra Targaryen's character development takes on new leaps and bounds with each passing episode.

The heir to the Iron Throne appears to exhibit a subtle new nuance with each passing episode. Audiences knew that the Targaryen Princess was a rebellious quantity but not to the point where she would fake her own husband's death to allow her to marry her uncle.

The events of the episode however, drew a line in the sand for Rhaenyra. The Princess saw the events that occurred on Driftmark for what they were, the basis of the conflict which is sure to ensue - there can no going back from this. This new status quo saw her throw all caution and decorum to the wind in what can only be described as open defiance of her father.

It appeared that Rhaenyra had crossed the line from unpredictable to wicked in the climax to the episode, as the show runners tricked the audience into believing that she had had her husband Laenor murdered by his own lover. While fans of Rhaenyra will be breathing a sigh of relief to discover that she is not quite that wicked, what was effectively the disposal of her high-born husband was just another demonstration of how far the Targaryen heir is willing to go in pursuit of furthering her legacy - in addition to a cunning streak a mile wide.
