After Aegon's brother Aemond was killed by Rhaenyra's husband Deamon, the door to King's Landing and the Iron Throne was open to the new Queen. As Viserys' true heir was crowned, the people of King's Landing rejoiced. In her youth Rhaenyra was the 'Realm's Delight', and anything would have been an improvement on the drunken, joyless King Aegon II.

The honeymoon did not last long however. The very first time the new Queen of Westeros sat the Iron Throne, she left with cuts and scrapes all over, covered in blood. This was a bad omen that would soon come to fruition.

Rhaenyra's days as Queen of the Realm were short, and while she was loved in the first instance, increased taxes immediately killed her popularity. She became paranoid, and when two of her allies, and dragon riders besides, betrayed her, she lost trust in everyone around her, alienating herself completely.

As the entire realm turned on her, the Queen fled to Dragonstone where she was met by the King before her, Aegon II. Betrayed once more by one of her party, Rhaenyra Targaryen met her end when she was fed to her half-brother's dragon, Sunfyre.
