House Of The Dragon: Every Targaryen To Sit The Iron Throne
2. Aegon II (Again)
Still horribly burned, and with two broken, twisted legs thanks to yet another fall from the sky during dragon battle, and after feeding his half-sister to Sunfyre, Aegon travelled back to King's Landing to take his place upon the Iron Throne.
Ironically, Aegon II's return to the capital was met with a similar joy to when Rhaenyra took the crown after his disappearance in the first place. The former Queen's short reign showed that the grass is not always greener on the other side, and Aegon's appearance was a welcome return to the lesser of two evils.
The King was not without his enemies, however. There were those who remembered the troubles of Aegon's first rule in spite of how bad Rhaenerys' time on the throne was since. With enemies surrounding the city, the King was advised to abdicate and join the Night's Watch, a plea that the King ignored.
After a journey in his litter to the castle sept, King Aegon, second of his name, was found dead by poison. Though no-one could ever prove the culprit who administered the poison, it was strongly believed that Lord Corlys Velaryon, Hand of the former Queen Rhaenyra, was heavily involved.
With no male heirs to speak of, the crown passed to Aegon's nephew and son of the former Queen Rhaenyra, also named for the Conqueror.
