House Of The Dragon: Everything We Know So Far
2022 will see a return to Westeros, but what can we expect?
Few TV shows have ever been able to take the world by storm quite like Game of Thrones. Its meteoric rise, and unprecedented fall are now legendary, but it is not the end of the World of Ice and Fire. 2022 will see the debut of the wildly successful show's first spin off.
Such things in the world of TV can be dangerous. Even a show as popular as Friends failed when it came to producing a spin off, yet Frasier was arguably more popular than Cheers ever was. These things really can go either way.
House of the Dragon is absolutely no different, even taking into consideration the sour taste left by the ending of Game of Thrones. The show could either fail to overcome the mountain that is appeasing pissed off Game of Thrones fans, or it could be the redemption the World of Ice and Fire so sorely needs.
There is intrigue surrounding House of the Dragon that has only grown with the release of minimal footage, and though details are generally scarce, it's not like there is nothing to go on. There have been several details released that help paint a picture of exactly what the new series will ultimately look like.
9. It Is Based On 'Fire & Blood'
The two years between season seven and season eight of Game of Thrones seemed like an eternity at the time, but just imagine what fans of the Song of Ice and Fire books are going through. This year will make it a full decade since 'A Dance With Dragons: After the Feast' was released.
Readers have been waiting patiently (or not so patiently) for ten years, waiting to enjoy the next instalment, while George R. R. Martin has seemingly placed his focus elsewhere. One such area of his world that has been explored instead of completing the main series of novels is the documenting of the Targaryen family history.
In 2018, 'Fire and Blood' was published, detailing the first part of the Targaryen rule in Westeros, from Aegon I who conquered the country 300 years before Daenerys' story, to Aegon III, 157 years later. It is from these words that House of the Dragon will be adapted.
Specifically, the events will take place during King Viserys' reign on the Iron Throne, though the casting of the young version of several characters suggests either flashbacks, or potentially even multiple timelines in a similar style to the first season of The Witcher.
