Housemates, this is Big Brother. You have been evicted... by facebook! Channel 5's digital director James Tatam has told New Media Image that the broadcaster is working closely with Big Brother producers Endemol, Facebook and Mobile Interactive Group to develop a brand new Facebook app that would allow viewers to vote for who they want evicted electronically. The voting via Facebook wouldn't be free, as the social network's Credits payment system would be used, pricing tbc. Surprisingly, live 24 hour streaming of Big Brother will not be made available on the official website or Facebook as video highlights will be used instead, which kind of kills the idea of the show been broadcasted 24/7. A new twitter feed has launched. Tatam said,
€œWe want a lot of the content to be on Facebook. Putting real-time news and video updates alongside the ability to vote should be really powerful,€
On SMS voting;
€œIt€™s only worth having SMS if there isn€™t a better alternative on mobile. €œWe can€™t use SMS straight from screen because the regulators don€™t permit it, there have been too many problems with latency and lag.
Big Brother launches in six weeks time and WhatCulture! will be covering all the goings on in the house.
