Star Trek Discovery Lorca
CBS

Jason Isaacs initally turned down Star Trek Discovery, as he was no interested in simply re-hashing what had gone before. As a child, he had been a big fan of the Original Series, going so far as to, in his words, put in 10,000 hours of trying to move a coffee cup with his mind, inspired by Gary Lockwood's Gary Mitchell in the second pilot!

It wasn't without trepidation that he finally agreed to a Skype call with the producers, which thankfully led to them convincing him to come on board. Discovery was borne out of the troubled times that the world was and is facing, reflecting some of the more adult situations that audiences are used to.

However, he also didn't want people to think that Discovery was simply dark for dark's sake. He openly admitted that the trailers were cut a certain way to grab attentions, but the show was, he felt, more nuanced than that. On screen, Lorca may have been from another universe, yet he still fought to save the Federation from the Klingons, if perhaps a little callously while he did it.

As it stands, Isaacs' time on Discovery has come to an end and, with the ship being hurtled into the far future, it is unlikely that the Prime-universe character will appear - but this is Star Trek: anything is possible!
