How Every Season Of American Horror Story Is Connected

3. Roanoke Is Connected To Coven

Throughout the fake-documentary section of Roanoke, viewers were shown Scathach's backstory via a series of flashbacks. Commonly referred to as the witch of the wood, Scathach is an immortal supernatural being, and it was clear from the offset that there was more to her than meets the eye. The character ultimately didn't have much to do in the 10-episode season, but her existence in itself is vital in connecting Roanoke to a prior season of AHS.

During an interview with The Huffington Post, series creator Ryan Murphy revealed that Scathach is in fact the first Supreme Witch, adding.

“I knew that this character was important to the mythology of the show.”

For those of you unfamiliar, a Supreme Witch is a powerful witch that is charged with leading the coven - a title that Fiona Goode wanted to hold onto terribly during the Coven season. Murphy's comments link Roanoke to the witch-centric season.
