1. Ranjit Singh

Ranjit Singh, as played by Marshall Manesh, appeared in 22 episodes beginning with "Pilot" and coming to an end in "Last Forever." Ranjit began the series working as a cab driver, and he was the one responsible for taking Ted (and the gang) back to Robin's apartment, though he closed out the night at MacLaren's, drinking with the group.

From there, he was the one person who always picked up and drove anyone in the gang, which made him the most important supporting character for a number of important events in all of their lives. He drove the limousine that took Lily and Marshall from their wedding, and he helped Ted with his "two-minute date."

Ranjit ended up appearing in all nine seasons of the show, and by the end of the series, he was one of Barnie's groomsmen at his wedding. It seemed that there wasn't an important event he didn't have something to do with, and that makes him as important to the main characters as anyone else.

In the final episode, it was revealed that Ranjit stopped driving for other people, and through some investments, he managed to buy his own limo service and fleet of cars. Still, he probably drove the group around for old times' sake.
