How I Met Your Mother: 10 Best Supporting Characters

2. Patrice

Hammond Druthers How I Met Your Mother
CBS

Patrice was played by Ellen D. Williams, and she had the important distinction of being the one person Robin could never go more than a sentence or two without screaming at. Despite this, she considered Robin to be her best and closest friend; she would do absolutely anything for, no matter what.

It's this one-sided closeness that makes Patrice one of the most important people in the group, and it all centered around Barney's true feelings for Robin. When he decides to play his final play, "The Robin," he enlists Patrice to help him, which manifested in a fake relationship designed to make Robin jealous.

Through Patrice, Barney shows Robin that he is willing to leave his past behind him when he destroyed The Playbook. His plan culminates with a proposal plan he leaked to Ted. Ultimately, Ted takes Robin to the World Wide News building to have her confront Barney on the roof.

When she gets there, he's not proposing to Patrice in her favorite spot in the city, he's proposing to her. His incredible proposal wouldn't have been possible without Patrice's help, which makes her one of the most important supporting characters in the series... also, it's hilarious whenever Robin screams at her, so there's that as well.
