Attempting to get Robin's attention after their disastrous first date and "I Think I'm Falling In Love With You"-gate, Ted decides to throw not one, not two, but three entire parties on consecutive nights (including a Sunday), all in the hopes that Robin will show up. "It's casual", he tells her on the phone, but really the Three Night Party is yet another over the top manipulative stint to spend time alone with Robin, a fact that doesn't go over her head.

What's worse, Ted throws the parties much to the chagrin of his flatmate and supposed "best friend" Marshall, who is writing a pretty hefty paper for Law School at the time, showing absolutely no consideration for how his insistent and self-indulgent romantic pursuits might be affecting those around him.

When Robin finally does show up (on the third night), she goes to the roof with the attractive Carlos. Not content with letting her be, Ted charges up to interrupt what could be a nice night for Robin. They share a kiss, but decide it's best to stay friends.
