Season Nine has many lows mixed with its many highs, and this moment is the highest the season goes.
Earlier in the show, Barney achieved a "Perfect Week" - picking up seven girls in seven days. In Season Nine, after it is revealed he and Robin have gotten divorced (sigh), Barney reverts back to his playboy antics and achieves a "Perfect Month". The catch? The last woman he slept with became pregnant, and he's going to become a dad.
It's a shocking revelation that gives his arc a relatively satisfactory conclusion despite his failed marriage, and when he finally meets his daughter his speech is nothing short of perfect. As he sees her, the words he speaks are the very words he claimed he would never say to a girl: he confesses his love for her, and says he will always be there for her.
As far as moments on this show go, this is about the most heart-wrenching. And it sure makes you wonder how little Ellie grows up, doesn't it?
