How I Met Your Mother: 10 Simple Fixes That Would Have Saved The Ending

6. The Marriage Lasts

Twenty-two episodes of build-up to a wedding sure reflects the ambition of How I Met Your Mother. It proved more or less successful; it did cement Barney and Robin as a formidable pair and strengthened their relationship to an almost legendary status. Basically performing the TV equivalent of relationship therapy on them, the ninth season focused most of its energy on persuading viewers to their side. And it worked. Then, in less than twenty minutes of TV time, the entire marriage was thrown out the window and the two were divorced. How I Met Your Mother's assertion that life isn't perfect had gone too far; not only had they spent an entire season suggesting Barney and Robin might work, they again played with time terribly. Giving you one insight into the strife that plagued their relationship is simply not enough. This development led to Barney and Robin spiraling into the worst versions of themselves in the show's final minutes - if it could be erased from the history books, it'd essentially fix half of the finale's problems in one fell swoop.
