How I Met Your Mother: 10 Simple Fixes That Would Have Saved The Ending
5. Robin Granted Dignity
Robin always proved the most difficult character for How I Met Your Mother. Sometimes, she was a simple romantic bargaining chip; other times, she was the pillar of feminism, choosing professional life over romance. Robin grabbed one of the show's most heartbreaking moments, revolving around her infertility, an episode handled with grace and nuance. The final season, however, proved just the opposite. Robin held through the entire season as a constant light of hope. She carried strong plots with Ted, Barney, and even her absentee mother. Troubling clouds began to gather on the horizon when she seemed to suggest running away with Ted from her own wedding with Barney, but the marriage finally commenced. Unfortunately, similar to real life perhaps, the divorce wrecked her character. She chose her job over her husband, a choice constantly repeated through How I Met Your Mother's run, yet it seemed a bit off now. Barney and Robin seemed so compatible. It's only made worse when she decides to long for Ted. It should have exceedingly simple; let Robin retain her dignity. She literally lost it all.
