Who else could have topped this list other than the worst character not just in How I Met Your Mother, but perhaps of all sitcoms ever made?
Ted's college girlfriend, Karen is nothing short of a disaster. Not nearly as funny as the writers clearly think she is ("Sorry, bro" - ew), she's portrayed as pretentious, emotionally manipulative, and ultimately unforgivable.
Cheating on Ted on more than one occasion, Karen is little more than a overused joke, written to satirise Ted's more pretentious side but ending up becoming a parody of herself through derivative plotlines and forced humour.
No character in How I Met Your Mother's long history is as infuriating and genuinely pointless as Karen, and when she was finally written out of the show it was a welcome breath of fresh air for everyone involved. Sorry not sorry, bro.
