4. When She Almost Fled To Spain Right After Marshall Quit His Job
History almost repeated itself when Lily was about to leave Marshall to go to spain. The cirmumstances were even worse this time as she was married to him.
In the episode “The Exploding Meatball Sub”, Marshall has become increasingly displeased at Goliath National Bank and wants a job in a field that interests him – at the Natural Resources Defence Council. Initalliy, Lily supports his decision to make the change until she finds out he’ll be working voluntarily.
It soons dawns on her that she can’t handle the struggles that might occur with his lack of income. Lily tricks Ted into taking her to the airport so that she can go to Spain. This was a trip that she was supposed to take with Marshall but fears it won’t happen anymore so she goes alone.
Once again, Lily manipulates her friends so that she can run away from her life problems. Did she forget that Marshall took the GNB position for the sake of paying off her credit card debts? And who knows how badly this could have affected Marshall, both mentally and financially, if she had gone through with her actions?
