How I Met Your Mother: Every Season Finale Ranked Worst To Best
2. The Leap (Season 4)
Certainly one of the show's most underrated episodes, season four's finale The Leap finds the gang at a major crossroads in their lives. Ted is stuck on a new work project and reluctant to celebrate his birthday, Marshall tries to jump into next door's patio, and Barney and Robin confront their feelings for each other.
At turns ridiculously funny and highly rewarding, the episode sheds some light on Ted's long-teased confrontation with Lily's goat, finds Barney and Robin fumble over each other's attempts to shield their own feelings, and gives a final scene that works as a beautiful metaphor for how the gang are all taking big chances with their lives.
Some people might draw the line at the goat fight, I'm sure, but honestly, given the serious nature of the episode's major themes, it's a welcome bit of slapstick that's pulled off surprisingly well.
From Marshall finally taking the leap across buildings to the final shot of Ted starting his new job as an architecture professor, the whole episode is guaranteed to leave you smiling, and would be #1 on this list if it wasn't for one other finale...
