How I Met Your Mother: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
6. Season Two
Honestly, season two is absolutely brilliant, with enough all-time classic episodes to fill a sub-par sitcom, but it has one issue that lets it down: It stops focusing on the whole point of the show, and not once is the Mother mentioned or alluded to throughout its run.
Yes, Ted and Robin's relationship is great to see, but we know it's going to end with them breaking up because we've already been told Robin isn't the Mother. Because of this loss of focus, which dominates every other season, season two just watches like a generic sitcom. Sure, it's very funny and moving when it has to be, but it's definitely a part of Ted's story that could have been cut for brevity's sake.
That being said, season two does offer up Marshall and Lily's long-awaited marriage, and such fun episodes as "Monday Night Football" and "Lucky Penny," proving its narrative approach is the strongest aspect of the show. But, without that tighter focus on Ted's journey to meet his future wife, it's not quite the best HIMYM has ever offered.
Best Episodes: Slap Bet, Swarley, Lucky Penny
