Iron Fist: 10 Reasons It's A Massive Disappointment

9. The Origin Story Is Too Dull & Familiar

Danny Rand has by far the least interesting origin story of any of the four Defenders so far, and it doesn't help that it feels so incredibly familiar.

He's a rich white guy who becomes a superhero, so of course he's going to be compared to Iron Man and Doctor Strange, but the real touchstone here is Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.

The set-up is extremely similar (rich guy heads off to a far away land to learn combat skills, then returns years later to find his family business in disarray) albeit rather underwritten and suffused with clearly on-a-budget flashback sequences that play more as awkward than interesting.

Also, a lot of talking is done about the mystical city of K'un-Lun where Danny learned his craft, but again likely due to costs, we never get to see it for ourselves. It feels like a huge missed opportunity.
