It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: 10 Most Controversial Moments

1. Faking Cancer... Twice

There are very few things that gain more controversy than faking cancer, but a testament to how far It’s Always Sunny is willing to go to be one of the most controversial shows on TV is that they not only did this once, but twice.

Starting with Charlie mistakenly believing he has cancer in season 1, which sets off a chain of events which ends with the gang attempting to solicit The Waitress into sleeping with him to make him feel better about his diagnosis.

But perhaps the most morally bankrupt scheme occurs in season 8 when Charlie’s mother, Bonnie Kelly, tells Charlie that she has cancer, when in reality it is an to get money to repair a statue that her and Mac’s mother damaged.

Despite the gang eventually finding out about the fraud, they still hold an event in her honour going as far as to put a bald cap on her to make her death look imminent in order to generate more money.
