Jessica Jones Season 2 Review: 10 Spoiler-Free Reactions To First Five Episodes
3. The Central Mystery Is Intriguing, But Might Not Fill An Entire Season
As teased by the trailers, and the logical follow-up point after Season 1, Jessica Jones is in the hunt for answers about the mysterious IGH.
The questions of who they are, what they did, how many were affected, and where the people responsible are now form the central thread of the second season, allowing Jessica (and Trish) to do some real investigative work, and the hero goes up against this more than she does any one villain.
That's a choice that lessens some of the action stakes, but Jessica Jones is P.I. first, superhero second (if even that), and it’s great to see that given more prominence here.
The mystery of IGH is able to provide some surprises and questions, but the pacing of it - as is often the case with these shows - is a little on the slow side. That's not inherently a bad thing, because there's more focus on character development, but there are signs that, barring a few changes, it could be another Marvel series that fails to have enough story for 13 episodes and succumbs to some Netflix drift.
