Speaking at Galaxy Con this weekend during one of two Star Trek The Next Generation themed panels, Jonathan Frakes and John de Lancie discussed plans for a Q themed movie that had never made it to production level. Frakes said that when he had managed to get behind the camera and direct, he had asked the writers and producers:

When is our our finest nemesis is going to be in the movies?

Frakes directed Star Trek: First Contact, which featured popular villains the Borg, and Star Trek: Insurrection, which introduced the S'ona. Frakes admitted that he was surprised that Q didn't appear, an idea that de Lancie agreed with.

He spoke about an idea that he had generated to visit the 'real' Q Continuum:

I did create a backstory on that, which would have been really interesting. But I think it’s actually someplace that would require a great deal of imagination, and I think the audience would go. So I wish that they had gone there.

John de Lancie will soon reprise the role of Q in an upcoming episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks and Jonathan Frakes will be returning to direct in Star Trek: Discovery.
