Joss Whedon Is Bringing S.H.I.E.L.D. to TV
Joss Whedon will be co-writing and possibly directing a live-action TV show for Marvel Television set in the Avengers universe.
After weeks of rumors and speculation, it has finally been announced that Joss Whedon will be co-writing and possibly directing a live-action TV show for Marvel Television set in the Avengers universe. ABC has officially greenlit the project, titled S.H.I.E.L.D., and revealed that the show will focus on the agents of the superspy organization. It is not yet known whether the show will involve any of the actors/characters from The Avengers film, namely Samuel L. Jacksons Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders Maria Hill, or even Clark Greggs Phil Coulson. The show is expected to link to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, of course, and will hopefully include some classic characters from the comics who we havent yet seen on screen. Whedon will be writing the pilot with his brother, Jed Whedon, and his wife, Maurissa Tanaroen, who also collaborated with him on Dollhouse and Dr. Horribles Sing-A-Long Blog. The three of them will also serve as executive producers in addition to Jeffrey Bell, who worked on Whedons Angel, and Marvel TVs Jeph Loeb. With the huge box-office success of The Avengers behind it, it seems likely that the show will be fast-tracked into production, hopefully premiering sometime next year.
