Karen Gillan Says Doctor Who Departure Will Be Shock To The System

The 24 year old reveals she is going to find it strange not having the programme in her life any more.

Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has revealed she is preparing herself for a shock to the system when she leaves the show as it has been such a big part of her life in the last few years. The 24 year old said that she knows she is going to find it strange not having the programme in her life any more. Talking to Collider.com, the redhead said, "We have so much fun. It's so life-consuming, but in the most wonderful way. We film pretty much every day, for nine months of the year, so it's basically your life. And when you're not filming it, you're promoting it and talking about it, so it really does take over your life. It's going to be quite shocking. It will be a strange shock to the system, to not be doing it anymore." She added that she is also happy to have been written out of the show completely, rather than making occasional guest appearances, a la Billie Piper and Freema Agyeman in past series. As for what the future holds, Gillian is just hopeful that she manages to snare some roles that are as well written as Amy Pond. She concluded, "I'll remember working with my friends getting the best writing there is out there in Britain, at the moment, and also just playing such a strong female. "That's one thing I hope I continue to get to do. A lot of stuff is clearly written from a male perspective and the women aren't quite as fleshed out as the guys. Whereas this character is really well-written. I just hope I get to do more of that."
