Klaus: 8 Reasons To Watch Netflix's New Christmas Classic
4. The Visuals Are Stunning
This film is gorgeous. The love and detail that went into it can be seen in every shot, with smooth animation and beautiful colours slowly coming together as the grey, dreary, miserable town of Smeerensburg finds peace, friendship and, of course, Christmas spirit.
The dynamic and interesting character designs are reminiscent of many older 2D films from Disney, Dreamworks, and other classic sources that were more prominent in the 90s and early 2000s. A lot of detail work and beautiful colours also went into the toys Klaus creates, as well as the clothing on characters like the Sámi community in the film, vibrant and bright without being an eyesore.
The lighting of this film is particularly effective, intriguingly similar to the lighting effects used in 3D animation, but with an aged, painted look that makes it feel, in many ways, timeless and classic. It gives the film its enduring, Christmassy film, the same mood taken from lighting candles or yellow Christmas lights and watching them glow against the dark of winter.
Words can't express enough just how much this film does visually, so the only real recourse is to watch it and see for yourself.
