Krypton Season 1: Ranking Every Major Character From Worst To Best
1. Seg-El
Krypton's main protagonist and grandfather of Kal-El (aka Superman), Seg-El is a character who is incredibly enthralling not because of who he is, but who he isn't.
He isn't his grandson. He isn't just a rehash of the benevolent, wholesome, indestructible hero the world knows as Superman. He's flawed, succumbs to the stress of his burdens, and above all, he's human.
In fact, as far as Krypton's society is concerned, Seg is at the bottom of the barrel. His life was in a pretty rough place before Adam Strange showed up and changed everything for him, but even that came with its problems (apart from the obvious problem of the evil green alien trying to take the planet.)
Seg is forced to come to terms with the fact that his planet is doomed and there is seldom a thing he can do to change that. He does show shades of his grandson through his willingness to do what he can to keep Krypton from falling and put himself in the line of fire to help others. But he also has to deal with the existential toll of knowing that the greatest thing he'll ever do is have a grandson who will one day be a great hero.
Seg-El is a character who must constantly persist, even as everything he knows falls apart around him. In turn, he is one of the most fascinating and down-to-Earth protagonists DC TV has at the moment.
Finally, according to Cameron Cuffe, who flawlessly brought the character to life week after week, Seg's story is just getting started.
