Lantern: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Newly Announced Green Lantern TV Series

6. Alan Scott Will Be Portrayed As A Gay Man

Among the show's leads is Alan Scott, and that's definitely a surprise. A founding member of the Justice Society of America, his powers have never really been tied to Oa and the Green Lantern Corps, and he fought for truth, justice, and the American way long before even Superman came along.

Clearly, the plan is to make some changes to that in Lantern, and while it's unclear whether Scott will join his fellow heroes in outer space or appear in Earth-set flashbacks exploring the history of the Green Lantern mantle, it has been confirmed that the way he was portrayed on the post-Flashpoint Earth-2 is going to make it into the series.

In that, Alan was an openly gay man, and the plan is for that to be the case here as well. It's not necessarily how the "classic" version of this Green Lantern was portrayed, but it brings some diversity to the show and opens the door to a lot of very interesting storytelling possibilities.

As if this isn't enough, Lantern will feature three more human leads, but not Hal Jordan, John Stewart, or Kyle Rayner. Whether there are plans for them elsewhere is unclear, but let's take a closer look at those who have been confirmed for the series...
