Lantern: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Newly Announced Green Lantern TV Series
4. Jessica Cruz
Like Alan Scott, Jessica Cruz is an unexpected, interesting choice for this TV series. She became a shut in after suffering from severe PTSD caused by watching her friends die at the hands of gangsters. The fear she had of the world led to the Ring of Volthoom seeking her out, a powerful artefact from another Earth which had been conquered by a villainous version of the Justice League.
While its powers are similar to that of a ring from Oa, Volthoom is an entity which lives inside this ring and harnesses its host's fear in order to create constructs.
Ultimately, Jessica would overcome her fear and become a member of the Green Lantern Corps, and it will be interesting seeing how this is approached on the small screen. Kicking things off with all that seems like it might be a tad overcomplicated for causal fans, so it could be simpler to just have her recovering from past trauma by becoming a Green Lantern.
That's not to say Volthoom can't become a threat down the line, of course, as there are definitely ways the villain could be reimagined for this series.
