Lantern: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Newly Announced Green Lantern TV Series

3. Simon Baz

Green Lanterns
DC Comics

Like Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz is a relatively new creation, but one who is very relevant today and perfect for the small screen. The first Arab American member of the Green Lantern Corps, Simon was the subject of Islamphobic and xenophobic harassment after 9/11, and he later overcame that to become a mechanic and successful street racer.

He was forced to turn to car theft to look after his family, but made a terrible mistake when he stole a vehicle that someone had rigged a bomb in the back of. Believed to be a domestic terrorist, Simon managed to escape the FBI when one of the Green Lantern rings tracked him down, and as well as coming to terms with his newfound powers, he also had to clear his name.

That all sounds like it has the makings of a great TV series storyline, don't you think?

Lantern can do a tonne of interesting things with a character like this; they will just have to be careful not to make him a stereotype as that could lessen the impact of his story in a big way.
