If you're a fan of comic book adaptations, then you have undoubtedly noticed the shift in the genre that is currently taking place. Many modern projects have been specifically targeted at a more mature audience: Luke Cage and Jessica Jones to name just a couple. This is especially true for the X-Men series if Deadpool and Logan are anything to go off of, in addition to Legion itself.

While this new direction has given us the chance to experience stories that truly need an adult-centric style to be told properly, Legion seems to already be pushing things further, and for the better.

At its core, Legion's is a very grown-up story. It deals with severe mental illness, as well as the negative effects that can go along with it, such as drug abuse and broken relationships. Moreover, the show focuses heavily on the light and darkness that exists within us all - those deep dark fears we do our best to keep locked away while putting on a mask of normality. This is only amplified by the mutant aspect, as we see just how disastrous these people's "gifts" can truly be to their personal lives, as they posses the bower to break them from the inside out in ways we've never seen before.

In addition to the show's adult themes, however, what sets Legion apart is that the mature structure of the show itself. It's so bizarre and convoluted that it will take a developed mind to truly comprehend and make sense of it all.

It's show for adults not only in theme, but also in its production.
