An old friend of Rendell's and the loving mother of Rufus, Ellie tries to reach out to the Locke family and make them feel welcome in both Matheson and Keyhouse. However, it soon becomes clear that she's the key - pun very much intended - to unlocking the secret mystery of the town.
As the season moves forward, Ellie becomes more prominent, forcing us to sit up and pay attention to her. And even though her motivations aren't always clear, that plays into her arc really well because we do find them out before the finale - something that undoubtedly made viewers root for her even more. And let's just hope that rooting is enough to save her in the second season.
