Loki Season 2 Episode 1 Review - 7 Ups & 2 Downs
1. Up - Back To Its Best?
No one can deny the decline in, not just the MCU, but comic book movies in general over the last few years. The genre has been in a funk, in spite of which, more content than ever is being produced and released.
Part of this, at least in regards to Marvel Studios, has come thanks to the emergence of Disney+, and the limited series that have been released on the platform since WandaVision in 2021. Eight more series later and you could argue that the magic has been lost somewhat.
In terms of Rotten Tomatoes scores, the MCU's latest outing, Secret Invasion is its worst ever performing project, with neither the Tomatometer nor the audience score topping 55%. This was a new low for the franchise, however with the return of Loki comes the potential for a new beginning.
Secret Invasion may have been disappointing, though it did have its moments, however it's not unfair to say that just one episode of Loki's second season felt more compelling and interesting than Nick Fury's entire limited series. This certainly has the potential to see the MCU getting back toward its best, something that hasn't been seen for a number of years at this point.
