Loki Season 2 Episode 1 Review - 7 Ups & 2 Downs

The MCU's first season two has started off strong.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is under a lot of pressure for the second season of Loki to be a success. There have been six other series released since the finale of Loki's first season, but you could argue that the standard hasn't come close to matching the God of Mischief's first solo outing.

This is also the franchise's first second season, and with new directors at the helm and the potential to impact the wider universe, there will be intense scrutiny, possibly even more so than usual.

With all that pressure however, comes a lot of reasons to be excited. The first season wasn't one of the most popular of the MCU series by accident, and with most of the cast returning, including the ever-popular Loki himself, this has a chance to be the best six-episode stretch Marvel Studios has put out yet.

Episode one of the second season ends two years of waiting, and it's safe to say it has hit the ground running. There are plenty of Ups in this article, but as with anything it wasn't perfect. As small as these gripes may be, there are still some Downs...

9. Down - An Irritating Trope

There is a trope that is often used throughout TV and cinema where a certain character has important information to get across, but for one reason or another cannot properly communicate it. This leads to a misunderstanding with someone else that could have been avoided had the first character just given all the information they had in the first place.

It's understandable why this kind of interaction is used, as such misunderstanding can advance the plot or initiate conflict, but in the first episode of Loki, it was just slightly irritating.

When Thor's brother returned from the End of Time, by way of slipping to the past a couple of times, he finally found the right Mobius. However, all he gave everyone's favourite TVA employee were snippets of vague information with no context, surrounding the Citadel at the End of Time, He Who Remains, and what Sylvie did, and it's no surprise that Mobius didn't know what he was on about.

No character is perfect, and Loki was of course flustered, but all he needed to do was slow down for a second and actually explain properly to Mobius what had been happening, and he would have gotten his point across a lot quicker and a lot more eloquently.
